Clarivate is seeking a Privacy Legal Counsel to join the Global privacy team! This role is essential to the overall success of the privacy program by providing privacy guidance to the Academia and Government (A&G) business segment of a global organization operating in 40+ countries. The Privacy Legal Counsel will partner cross-functionally to effectively manage risk and drive privacy compliance while facilitating business objectives. This role will report to the Senior Director, Associate General Counsel.Â

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments…Â
J.D. degree and member of state bar (or foreign equivalent)Â
7+ years’ experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department, with 4+ years of experience advising on privacy and data protection mattersÂ
In-depth knowledge of EU and US privacy laws and regulationsÂ
Experience negotiating data processing agreements and other privacy addendumsÂ
Providing legal advice for data incidents and breach mitigations managementÂ

Knowledge of FERPA, COPPA, and similar lawsÂ
CIPP certification preferredÂ

What will you be doing in this role?...Â
Serve as privacy lead for the Academic and Government business segment of ClarivateÂ
Serve as primary contact for privacy and data protection related inquiries from internal stakeholders and customersÂ
Provide actionable advice and legal counsel on privacy and data protection requirements and privacy-by-design best practices to product teamsÂ
Draft and negotiate privacy related provisions in commercial agreements, including data processing agreementsÂ
Operate across a range of privacy laws and frameworks, including GDPR, COPPA, CCPA/CPRA and other U.S. state privacy laws, PIPEDAÂ
Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with colleagues and stakeholders to drive privacy-forward solutions for long term strategic efficiencyÂ
Assist the business in improving processes and systems to meet or exceed privacy and data protection compliance requirements, with an eye toward scalable and sustainable practiceÂ
Provide employee training and raise awareness on privacy and data protection obligationsÂ
Stay abreast of global privacy and data protection laws, regulations, and enforcement actionsÂ

Hours of WorkÂ
This is a full-time, hybrid position working within commutable distance to one of our US-based office locationsÂ
 Ability to be flexible with working hours across regions and time zones worldwideÂ
Compensation - US Only
The expected base salary for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 USD per year. This role is eligible for (incentive or bonus) earnings. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill and ability, expertise, and relevant factors.
